What is the 5G Spectrum Auction?
The word spectrum refers to range of radio-waves that can be used for communication purpose. This includes the FM or AM radio broadcast we often listen to. The smart phones we are using also use the same radio waves to tramit data the main difference is the frequency. Spectrum is nothing but the frequency like AM or FM for the mobile networks.
Indian Spectrum Auction
The biggest ever spectrum auction in India ended on Monday. A record sale of 5G telecom spectrum worth more than Rs 1.5 lakh crore took place in this seven-day auction. In this auction, the company of billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani (Jio) made its highest bid. .Airtel and Voda-Idea (Vi) have also acquired spectrum in different circles and frequencies. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the spectrum allocation work will be completed in 10 days and there will be better connectivity of 5G network in the next 3 years across the country.
Cities where the 5G Network will start in first Phase
Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Pune and Lucknow. In a press conference, the Telecom Minister said that the spectrum purchased is enough to cover all the circles in the country. He said India’s 5G coverage will be “very good” in the next three years.
5G Data plan cost
According some media reports the 5G data will cost 30% more to the current 4G data plans. For example, the 1.5GB daily 5G plan might cost Rs 866 for 84 days, for which Jio is currently charging Rs 666.
However, with increased competition, a price war is also expected. It is claimed that 5G will get 10 times faster speed than 4G network. With this people will get the best connectivity of the internet. It is believed that 5G data plans can be cheaper.
