Luther: The Fallen Sun is an audacious direction for the BBC series “Luther” to take. The show’s focus on the complex antihero John Luther (played by Idris Elba) has introduced a wide range of unhinged villains over its five seasons, from dice-rolling Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts to lethal heart surgeons and even Satanic blood-drinkers.

In Netflix’s latest production, Luther’s story is taken to new extremes. As a cop with a penchant for violence, Luther’s actions often straddle the line between justice and vigilantism. However, in this feature-length continuation, his questionable methods are justified as he faces off against a cyber-savvy killer portrayed by Andy Serkis. The villain is portrayed as nearly omnipotent, a bombastic force whose exaggerated presence matches the movie’s likely sizable Netflix budget. This latest installment represents a twisted and surreal dive into Luther’s world, surpassing any previous forays into his story.

The Fallen Sun, an episode in the popular TV series Luther, was directed by Jamie Payne and written by the series creator Neil Cross. The show’s trademark nightmare-inducing setup is immediately evident in the opening scene where a young man, Calum, receives a terrifying call from a stranger who blackmails him into driving to an isolated location. However, Calum is confronted by a horrifying and unexpected obstacle that sets the stage for a gripping and suspenseful story.

This unsettling beginning sets the stage for a cat-and-mouse game between Luther and the blackmailer, David Robey, played by the talented actor, Andy Serkis. Robey is a terrifying character, and Serkis’ portrayal of him is strikingly theatrical, complete with some powerfully bad wigs. The show’s real focus, however, is on Robey’s use of the internet to locate and target his victims.

The Fallen Sun is a masterful episode that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats with its combination of suspense, horror, and psychological drama. Through the story, the audience is shown how modern technology can be used to cause unimaginable harm to innocent people. The episode’s gripping narrative and outstanding performances from the cast, particularly Serkis, make it an unforgettable addition to the Luther series and a must-watch for fans of the genre

Jennifer Lopez also starred in thrillers like “Anaconda” and “U-Turn” that same year, beginning a multi-decade action career. She has also gone on to voice act in a whopping 26 feature films since. She also showed her appetite in a 2022 Netflix documentary, “Jennifer Lopez: Halftime.” This highly personal documentary explores Jennifer’s enduring desire to prove herself. Her best movies did not always allow her to be internationally acclaimed by the recording actors to exhibit all her talents. Not even in “Selena,” let her sing, and “Anaconda” calls for regrettably little dancing. Below are a few of her best movies.

The Boy Next Door

This movie is directed by Rob Cohen and is centered on Claire Peterson, a high school teacher struggling to move on after separating from her husband. When Claire sleeps with her 19-year-old neighbor Noah (Ryan Guzman), she regrets it and immediately tries to end things. But Noah pursues Claire with “Fatal Attraction” intensity levels, and a game of cat and mouse soon begins. This movie is not an invented erotic thriller though it does not feature some uniquely funny double entendre under an excellent performance from Lopez. 

The Wedding Planner

A crew that includes both titans of the aughts rom-com arena, Lopez and co-star Matthew McConaughey work genuine wonders in “The Wedding Planner.” This movie does not get the past grossness of grains-including the premises, but also the scenes and chant some lovely sparkling Ness that is possible to appreciate the chemistry of McConaughey and Lopez. 

Second Act

This most love tagline- “The only thing stopping you is you.” is from the movie Second Act, directed by Peter Segal, and is an immensely idealistic rom-com that is a story of a brilliant woman who uses a fake resume to get the future she deserves. In this movie, Jennifer Lopez gave her best shot along with her co-stars and shared a memorable scene with Leah Remini, Vanessa Hudgens, and Milo Ventimiglia. 

Monster-in-Law

Lopez played the opposite role against Jane Fonda in Robert Luketic’s “Monster-in-Law,” this is a feud comedy set against the backdrop of a lavish wedding between free spirit Charlie (Lopez) and dashing doctor Kevin (Michael Vartan). During this time, she has returned to the big screen for the first time since “Stanley and Iris,” Fonda steals the show as the deliciously vicious Viola, a past-her-prime talk show host and Kevin’s mother. But Lopez is in the hearts of everyone by delivering her drizzling character, and the most beautiful scene that everyone wants to see is her walking down the aisle. 

Marry Me

By striking off with the international pop superstar Kat Valdez (Lopez) and discovering her fiancé Bastian (Maluma) cheating on her just moments before she’s about to marry him in front of millions. So, in this moment of spontaneity, she married a maths teacher named Charlie Gilbert (Owen Wilson). Marry Me is a fake significance to the movie To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before but gets some bonus points for the surprise that Wilson and Lopez fall for each other. 

Anaconda

This movie is stupidly fun only because Lopez plays badass fighting for her life on the Amazon River. The plot is somewhat cheesy, and the practical effects are a little tricky. But this movie has garnered a cult following for a reason: It’s consistently thrilling, solidly unique, and dares to “go there” with its creature feature premise. Plus, Ice Cube and Jon Voight are phenomenal.

Out of Sight

This movie is adapted from Elmore Leonard’s novel of the same name, Steven Soderbergh’s “Out of Sight” which casts Lopez opposite George Clooney in a crime comedy that also includes Don Cheadle, Albert Brooks, and Ving Rhames, among others. Jennifer plays the role of a federal marshal who begins a life-and-death flirtation with a bank robber that blossoms into a snarky edge-of-your-seat adventure. 

Selena

Gregory Nava directs this movie, and the story is somewhat of a biopic of a traditional musician, chronicling the life of the Tejano singer from her ambitious childhood to performing before sold-out stadiums to her tragic death at just 23 years old in 1995. Lopez played a radiant story by meeting the challenges of playing a pop star. She played a very texture and heartwarming role.

Maid in Manhattan

This movie is the best romantic comedy directed by Wayne Wang; the story is followed by the 2002 flick and follows a hotel maid who falls for a visiting politician (Ralph Fiennes) when he mistakes her for a wealthy socialite (Natasha Richardson). Lopez played an endearing performance as a single mother, and Marisa captures the classic rom-com arc with lasting specificity allowing her ample screen time with her love interest and her son.

Hustlers

This movie trailers the story of captivating an accurate tale of strippers stealing from the rich and giving to themselves in a pop-laden spectacle from the director Lorene Scafaria. Lopez played the leading role and got the attraction, conjuring a career-best performance as ringleader Ramona Vega: a force of nature presence imbued with the effervescent showmanship Lopez has spent her entire career perfecting. By performing amazingly in the movie, she also received an Oscar. 

This was a short and lovely journey for Jennifer Lopez till now. She is, and every person will always love her.
