Probe team submits SCB Chlorine gas leak mishap report to State government


 The six-member joint administrative enquiry committee which was probing the incident of Chlorine gas leak mishap in the premises of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack submitted its probe report to the District Collector today.

The district administration has also submitted the report to the State Housing and Urban Development Department. “The details of the report cannot be divulged as it is confidential. However, the probe panel has mentioned details of how and why the mishap occurred and whose carelessness led to the incident besides suggesting some measures to avoid such accidents in future,” said Cuttack Collector Sushant Kumar Mohapatra. The government will examine the findings and take action accordingly against those who are responsible for the incident, he added.

Notably, one of the three unused Chlorine gas cylinders lying dumped inside the SBMCH pump house leaked leaving 46 persons sick on November 29 afternoon following which Collector Sushant Mahapatra on the next day had constituted a six-member committee to probe into the incident. SCBMCH Superintendent, Superintending Engineer of Public Health Engineering Organization (PHEO), Regional Officer of State Pollution Control Board, Assistant Director of Directorate of Factories and Boilers and Assistant Fire Officer, Cuttack were included as the member of the joint fact finding committee headed by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Raghuram Iyer.
