BJD’s equi-distance
Post-Panchayat elections Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently said in New Delhi that his party will maintain equal distance from both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. To be sure, the ruling BJD has been maintaining this stand ever since it parted company with the BJP on eve of the 2009 Assembly elections and the subsequent win by whopping numbers. But this equi-distance theory has somewhat been unconvincing if not totally hopeless.
