Fake ghee manufacturing unit busted, one detained

 Commissionerate police busted a fake ghee manufacturing unit at Professorpada Sagadiasahi within Mangalabag police limits today.

DCP Akhileswar Singh said, acting on a tip off, a special team of police headed by IIC, Mangalabag police station Arun Kumar Swain raided a house and unearthed the fake factory running from two rooms on the upstairs of the double storied building.   Nearly 350 kg of adulterated ghee, vegetable oil and other items, which were used to prepare adulterated ghee, were seized. Besides, huge number of logos of different companies including OMFED, Durga, Devi, etc, different size of empty pouches, plastic containers and machines for packing, sealing and branding have also been seized.

Police have also cornered the 32-year-old accused house owner Subas Chandra Behera who has been detained and is being interrogated in Mangalabag police station. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the adulterated ghee was being prepared using Palmoline oil, refined Mobil (engine oil) and some chemicals and essence items. The unit was operating in a clandestine manner and the adulterated ghee was sold in the name of reputed brands in the markets in the city and other areas.

“While the cost of manufacturing of one of fake ghee is within Rs. 100, the adulterator used to sell it in the market for Rs 500 to 600 per kg after labeling them under reputed brands,” the DCP said adding further investigation is on to ascertain the details about the fake ghee manufacturing unit.
