Minor girl rescued from bore well hole

A two and half year old girl was rescued from a bore well hole in Gulasar village under Handapa police station area today after a massive operation by Fire Brigade and Police. The girl was brought out live  and rushed to Angul District Headquarters Hospital, said officials. The girl was in good shape and started behaving normally after the trauma, they said. The girl Radha had slipped into the hole though it is still not clear how. The sources said the rescue was done after digging another hole on the side of the one to which the girl had slipped while playing this morning.

However, the District Administration had sought assistance from Odisha Disaster Radip Action Force (ODRAF) as it does not have the required equipment to deal with such exigency, said a senior District Administration official. Fire Services DG BK Sharma tweeted that fire personnel from Bamur and Angul carried out the rescue operations successfully.

“A parallel hole of 15/16ft depth was dug nearly 6ft away fm the borewell hole. Then a tunnel was dug to connect to the bore well,” he said in his Tweet.

The DG said after opening the tunnel, a fireman reached the spot and rescued the 3-year-old minor girl.

Meanwhile, Angul Collector has ordered a probe into the incident on why the borewell pit was left open. The Collector has directed the Lift Irrigation Executive Engineer to submit the enquiry report by tomorrow positively. “Those responsible for it will face action”, he said. The Collector also informed that Radha's medical treatment expenses will be borne from the District Red Cross Fund.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to his Twitter handle to laud t he efforts of district administration, firemen and ODRAF personnel for successfully rescuing Radha from the borewell. “Commend @angul_dm, firemen, police, ODRAF & good samaritans for successful rescue of Radha from borewell in Angul district. The feat could only be achieved by excellent teamwork. Acts like these inspire public confidence in Govt machinery. Praying for little one's speedy recovery”, Naveen wrote on his Twitter handle.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
