Gujarat poll result revives hope of State Congress

The recent result of Assembly polls in Gujarat has revived the hope of State unit of Congress, which is in dire straits and has been pushed to the wall.

The party, which conceded defeat to its rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but managed to win 80 seats along with its allies in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stronghold, has done well than the previous elections.  OPCC president Prasad Harichandan said, the result of Gujarat elections will impact Odisha’s electorate. “BJP might have been won the election by numbers, but for Congress it was a victory of principles and ethics”, he added. Harichandan said Rahul Gandhi’s ascension as Congress’ President followed by the performance of the party in Gujarat is a strong indication of voters’ psyche who have welcomed the Congress leadership and rejected BJP. “The Congress’ wave has originated in the Arabian Sea will soon reach the shores of Bay of Bengal,” Prasad added. “Congress campaigned and contested the Gujarat on grounds of morality whereas BJP is a party of narcissists. The false esteem and canards of the saffron party are short lived”, the Congress leader said.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
