PPT to undertake dredging of Fishery Harbour mouth

Paradip Port Trust (PPT) Board has decided to undertake dredging of Paradip Fishery Harbour.

The Board at its meeting on Friday decided to undertake dredging of Mahanadi river mouth to allow smooth flow of fishing vessels, said sources.

Besides the board has also decided to request the Union Government to investigate mv BLACK ROSE sinking incident in 2009. The local fishermen have hailed the decision and expressed their gratitude to Trustees of PPT Pratap Mishra , Ajaya Kumar Dash and Bhubana Mohan Jena who were demanding dredging of Mahanadi mouth.

Notably, several mishaps at the River Mahanadi mouth caused mishaps and casualties. Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik had written to centre for dredging of the mouth, but no action was initiated. The trustees had requested the PPT management to look into the matter for the benefit of the fishermen.

PPT Chairman Rinkesh Roy told PBD that PPT is not competent to hand over mv BLACK ROSE sinking probe to CBI. He said the dredging work will be carried out as part of the Inland Waterways project under the Union Ministry of Shipping.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
