Police seeks show cause over OSAP recruits abandoning firearms, taking selfies

A show cause has been sought by Odisha police today from concerned officials hours after first batch recruits of Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) were seen abandoning firearms and taking selfies with children and others at the ceremonial ground here.

As the matter was reported in the media, it did not go down well with the senior officials of the State police.

OSAP ADG B Radhika was prompt to issue a show-cause to the trainers for the negligent attitude of the new recruits. Soon after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik left the 7th Battalion ground post attending the passing-out parade, celebration broke out in the ground. The constables were quick to abandon the self-loading rifles (SLR) and inviting their relatives to the ground for taking photographs and selfies. While the firearms were empty, it could have led to a serious mishap had the SLRs been loaded.

Notably, as many as 1,289 constables including 203 women cadet passed out after completing a nearly 9-month rigorous training here.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
