Odia Boxing coach Braja Bhushan Mohanty conferred Dronacharya Award




 Boxing coach Braja Bhushan Mohanty of Odisha was conferred with the prestigious Dronacharya Award on the occasion of National Sports Day at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi today for his lifetime contribution to boxing.

Mohanty is the first Odia to receive the award for his contribution towards boxing.

After trained in boxing coaching from Patiala in 1992, Mohanty, a resident of Badakhemundi in Berhampur kicked off his career as a boxing coach in defense.

During his career as a coach, he has produced a dozen of boxers including Shiva Thapa, Dingko Singh, Gurucharan Singh and Vikas Krishan Yadav, who have clinched medals for the country in international boxing competitions.

Following retirement from defence service in 2013, he was appointed as the chief coach of Jharkhand boxing team. Throughout his career, he has worked for development of boxing in India. He was in the Indian coaching team for boxers from 2002 till 2011.
