OISF all set to guard Hirakud Dam, other industrial installations in State

In a first, personnel of newly formed Odisha Industrial Security Forces (OISF) will be deployed for protection of the sensitive Hirakud Dam over river Mahanadi. As a matter of fact, Hirakud Dam, the longest earthen dam in India is a vital and strategic installation of the State Government.

In an impressive passing out parade 1289 OISF constables captured the fascinated attention of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who enthusiastically witnessed the Parade for over one hour at Seventh OSAP Battalion Ground here today.

“My government has created OISF to provide an integrated safety and security cover to the industrial undertakings and establishments”, said Patnaik while speaking at the passing out parade.

While Odisha has achieved one of the highest industrial growths and is among the most attractive investment destinations in the country, OISF will play a vital role in promoting peaceful industrial atmosphere in the State, he said.

After 270 days of training these1289 constables including 203 women were appointed in the first phase following a marathon pan-Odisha recruitment process. They have been imparted the requisite professional skills in industrial security in addition to normal police training.

State Government had approved 1808 posts for this newly created Force in 2014 having One IGP, One DIGP, Two Commandants, Three Deputy Commandants, Six Assistant Commandants and other posts in various ranks.

Officers from Commandant to Havildars have undergone training for a period of 45 days in industrial security to provide leadership in the force.

OISF has both men and women personnel as for the first time women have been inducted into armed force.

While congratulating Purnima Mohapatra for being the overall topper of the batch, the Chief Minister said, “It is heartening to know that in the outdoor subjects, the women constables have performed very well by securing 8 out of 10 top posts.”

OISF was raised on April 30, 2016 and the Jawans were provided with training at three Centers located at Angul, Burla and Jharsuguda. The training is on the lines of training provided to the jawans of Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF).

OISF has been brought under administrative control of Special Armed Police (SAP).

There has been overwhelming response from various organizations including both Government and Corporate Sector to deploy the newly carved out OISF, said Patnaik.

He said response has been received from the institutions of State Government, Central Government, Public Sectors and Banks for deployment.

OISF Jawans will be deployed to protect Hirakud Dam, institutions of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), Indian Rare Earth, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and others.

Soon, these forces will be deployed in these establishments and more forces will be recruited as there is more and more demand for OISF, said sources.

DGP K B Singh, IGP Sanjeeb Kumar Panda and senior officers were among others who also graced the occasion.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
