Tipsy former Ranji skipper detained for causing series of accidents




 Former State Ranji Captain Haladhar Das was today detained by Commissionerate Police for allegedly causing a series of accidents due to rash driving of his car in a tipsy condition.

Police sources said, the 34-year-old cricketer was driving his Maruti Swift car, bearing registration number OD-05H-7780, in an inebriated condition this afternoon and caused a series of accidents at over four places on the busy road of the city between Mangalabag and Cantonment police station.

“Panic prevailed for few minutes as the speeding car hit number of bikes, cyclists and also pedestrians due to rash driving after which some local residents followed the vehicle in their bikes for about 7 kilometer and stopped it near Chahata Ghat,” said Raghunath Singh, an eyewitness of the incident.

The irate locals manhandled Das and damaged his car before handing him over to the Bidanasi police.

“Das was in an inebriated condition and he has been referred to S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital for receiving necessary treatment,” said IIC, Bidanasi police station P.K. Rout adding a probe in to the incident would be initiated soon.
