Orissa HC grants conditional bail to Sarathi

Orissa High Court today granted conditional bail to self-styled godman Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raul who is in jail for nearly a year following allegations of sexually exploiting several women disciples and amassing huge property.

The case was registered by Crime Branch of the Odisha Police on August 7 last year after locals ransacked Roul’s ashram at Barimula near Kendrapara after his exploits were exposed by a local television channel.

As per the conditions put forth by the High Court, Sarathi has been banned from visiting Barimula or Kendrapara or to take out any procession after being released from the jail. He has also been directed to inform the Investigating Officer about his whereabouts during the bail period.

However, the self-styled godman is unlikely to be freed from Choudwar Jail, where he is interned, as one more case is pending against him.

Notably, in May, the Supreme Court had granted bail to the self-styled godman in a case of molestation of a medical college student.
