Three convicted for firing at Maheswar Mohanty

As many as three persons were today sentenced to five years imprisonment by the District and Sessions Judge court here in connection with firing at State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Maheswar Mohanty on February 21, 2014.

Amit Bikram Harichandan, Satyanarayan Panigrahi and Lokanath Mishra were awarded five years jail term by the court, reports said. The three were identified by the minister during trial. The court also acquitted three others who were accused in the case due to lack of evidence, reports added. Notably, Minister Mohanty had sustained bullet injuries on his hand and shoulder in a firing near Amala Club in Puri on the fateful day while he was driving a scooter. Mohanty’s wife had lodged an FIR with Puri Town police in this regard.
