RSP’s new plate mill registers best ever monthly performance since inception




 The new plate mill of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) which was brought back normalcy in the C shift of June 3, 2017 after a temporary setback has bounced back with the best ever monthly performance since inception in all important parameters in the month of July 2017.

The mill rolled highest ever 78254 tonnes of slab in July 2017. During the month, the mill produced 70,367 tonne of plates by utilising around 94 pc of its capacity. This is an increase of 14.3 pc over the previous best monthly figure that was 61,547 tonne.  The despatch of 60,963 tonne of plates from the new plate mill matched the production and was the highest ever. The last best monthly despatch of 60,124 tonne was registered in March 2017, an official release said today.

The July despatch included the export of 13,172 tonne of CE marked plates to the highly competitive European market where RSP has created a niche for itself. Besides, 30,398 tonne of High Tensile Plates were also dispatched during the month. The sterling performance of the mill will bolster the bottom line of the organisation.

Along with increasing production the employees are geared up to achieve customer delight by providing high quality products in a time-bound manner. Besides, utmost importance is also being given to proactive maintenance of vital equipment.

CEO, RSP Ashwini Kumar and ED (Works) Subhendra Das visited the new plate mill today and congratulated the collective on its stupendous performance. The CEO interacted with the collective and exhorted to show a similar quantum jump in the production levels in coming months.

Notably, the blast furnace 5 of RSP which went through a critical phase in the recent past also achieved the best July production since inception. The total Hot Metal production during the month was to the tune of 2.85 lakh tonne out of which Blast Furnace 5 produced 2.15 lakh tonne.

The sale of RSP’s flat products has increased significantly in July 2017. During the month the plant sold 2.24 lakh tonne of flat products like Plates, HR Coils etc which is a stupendous growth of 43.9 pc over July, 2016. The cumulative sales of flat products in April-July 2017 was 8,08,400 tonne which is a 24.5 pc rise the corresponding period last year.

The outstanding achievement of RSP on the production front is a result of the effective ramping up of production in the modernisation units. The continual guidance of CEO, RSP and his constant engagement with the employees through various interaction forums was instrumental in creating a well knit and vibrant Team RSP, the release added.
