Mysterious sheep deaths cause panic in Niali

In a mysterious incident, sheep are being allegedly killed and their livers taken out during night in some villages of Niali block in Cuttack district.

The mysterious incident happening for the last two months has created panic among the locals. According to locals, more than 400 sheep have been killed in Bilasuni, Baharana, Bagalagada, Bagala Sahi, Niali Purba Khanda, Nuagan, Bada Korkara and its adjacent villages in Niali block during the last two months. They however don’t know who are killing the sheep, the villagers said.

“The chests of the sheep are found to have been slit and their livers gouged out. The rest of the bodies of the sheep are being left on the spot”, the villagers said. While some locals suspect that some wild animal might be doing this, some other suspect that a group of miscreants are creating the incident in a planned way.

The panicked sheep growers who have been suffering losses due to mass killing of sheep have demanded a proper and thorough investigation into the incident to ascertain the truth.
