Experts team study facilities at IGH for upgradation

A seven-member team of experts from the Centre today reviewed the infrastructure at the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) at Rourkela to consider its demand of super specialty status as demanded by the Rourkela BJP Legislator Dilip Ray.

According to sources, the Expert team came after the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ray had met the Prime Minister in March this year and apprised him about the inordinate delay in upgrading IGH Hospital to a Medical College and a super specialty hospital despite Modi’s announcement in this regard in April 2015.

“The Prime Minister has asked Union Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya to expedite the upgradation of RSP-run Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of SAIL into Super Specialty Hospital and Medical College,” Ray had said after meeting the Prime Minister.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also written to the Prime Minister urging him to expedite the upgradation of the IGH to Medical College.

Notably, services in IGH are deteriorating every day with a huge number of vacancies. According to sources, a large number of positions are lying vacant though 107 doctor posts were approved for the IGH.

While process is underway for a full-fledged Medical College and Hospital, a super specialty clinic was inaugurated on April 9 this year at IGH following an MOU signed with Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad.

As per the MoU, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad will be deputing super specialists in nephrology and oncology every second Saturday of the month and specialists in cardiology and neurology every fourth Saturday of the month, the sources added.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
