Jailer arrested after failing to account for seized cash




 Jailer of Sambalpur Circle Jail Sushant Rout was today arrested by the Vigilance department after he failed to account for cash worth Rs 18,86,900  seized from his office chamber during a recent raid.

Earlier, on Thursday, Rout was suspended by ADG (Prisons) Arun Kumar Ray.

The Vigilance department today based on allegation of possession of huge cash of Rs 18,86,900 in the office chamber of Rout which was seized on June 4 during a surprise raid conducted by the District Police, Sambalpur, searched his government quarter situated inside the Jail campus, office chamber situated inside the Circle Jail, Sambalpur and paternal house at village Kalyanpur, Binjharpur police station, Jajpur district.

“During course of search, Rout failed to account for Rs 18,86,900, which was seized by the local police on June 4 from his office chamber. Rout has been arrested and will be forwarded in custody. The Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur will be requested to remand the accused Rout to Vigilance custody for further interrogation to trace out his immovable and movable assets. Documents/ pass books seized during raid are under verification. The search is going on”, said a Vigilance department release.

In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance police station case No 32 dated 09.06.2017 under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered against Rout.
