Son demands Trisulia Bridge be named after Akshaya Mohanty

Legendary singer, lyricist and music director Akshaya Mohanty’s son Mitrabhanu Mohanty has demanded that the Trisulia Bridge over Kathajodi River be named after his father.

Mohanty was a multi-faceted personality from the State and several of his songs were linked with Mahanadi and Kathajodi rivers. Though mostly popular as a singer and composer, Akshaya, widely known as Khoka Bhai, had also tried his hands in lyrics. He also wrote a few novels, short stories, poems and a travelogue, some of which were well appreciated in the literary circle of the State.

Besides Mitrabhanu, several intellectuals from Odisha too have demanded that the bridge be named after the legendary artiste. The demand gained momentum after Prime Minister Narendra Modi named the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh after legendary Assamese singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika. A campaign has also been initiated on social media to press the demand before the State government, said sources.

The much-awaited bridge over Kathajodi River will be thrown open to traffic this month. It will connect Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and reduce the travel time between the two cities significantly.
