Odisha Govt engages German firm for land use planning, management

 State Government has decided to implement 'Land Use Planning and Management' Project in the State with the technical assistance of Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Germany.

Sources said here today that a Note of Cooperation was signed in this regard yesterday by Principal Secretary Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department and GIZ in the presence of Development Commissioner,  Director of Town Planning & representatives of Water Resource Department, Industries Department, Electronics & IT Department, Panchayati Raj Department and Forest & Environment Department

The project is being implemented under the framework of Indo-German technical cooperation with an objective that state planning institutions in State apply policy framework, planning instruments, and new coordination mechanisms for integrated spatial land use planning and management, the sources added.

The lead State partners are Housing & Urban Development Department and Revenue & Disaster Management Department, they said.

According to the sources, the Directorate of Town Planning has been designated as the nodal organization for the project.

The project implementation will be demonstrated through development of a District Level Spatial Land Use Plan for the district of Ganjam and through development of a Local Level Spatial Land Use Plan for urban/ rural centers within the district, the sources added.

It also envisages to develop a State Level Land Use Policy for Odisha and to develop standardized norms for land use spatial planning simultaneously for successful demonstration and sustenance, they added.

Capacity building of relevant organizations and setting up of an organizational structure of district spatial planning and land use management are an integral component of the project, the sources said.
