Odisha Agriculture Minister to meet PM next month to urge hike in paddy MSP

State Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout today said that he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi next month to urge him to raise the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy.

Rout told the Assembly House Committee which met here today to discuss the issue that the government will try to get an appointment of the Prime Minister to discuss the issue sometime next month.

Notably, former Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma had claimed that the PMO has so far not given them an appointment with the Prime Minister.

However, former Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy had said after a House Committee meeting during the Budget session of the State Assembly that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be urged to fix the MSP at Rs 2930 per quintal.

Speaker Niranjan Pujari who chaired the meeting said the paddy MSP is fixed during June -July period but a memorandum will be given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi before that.

State Assembly witnessed pandemonium over farmers issue during the Budget session with opposition Congress and BJP demanding passing of an unanimous resolution for increasing the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy.
