Niranjan’s Delhi trip fuels Odisha PCC leadership speculations

Even as former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik left for New Delhi today, speculations are rife of a change in Odisha PCC leadership.

Though Patnaik claimed that his visit to the national capital was ‘personal’, it is being speculated that he is likely to meet Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi over the change of party’s leadership in the State. “I am going to Delhi on personal work. Rahul Gandhi has already taken a decision over the issue. We still do not have any clue over the issue. We will accept his decision.”

When asked about his possible appointment as the new Congress boss in Odisha, Patnaik, who is considered the top contender for the post, said, “I do not have any information in this regard, but the long wait should end soon.” A majority of Odisha Congress leaders who met Rahul Gandhi earlier this month are believed to have demanded a change in PCC leadership.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
