Odia girl wins gold at China Open Para Athletic Grand Prix




 Jayanti Behera, a 17-year-old girl has brought laurels to the State by winning gold medal at the China Open Para Athletic Grand Prix Championship on Sunday.

She notched the top prize in the women’s 400 metre event by clocking a timing of 1.02 minute. Earlier, she had got silver medal in women’s 200 metre race with a timing of 28.50 seconds. Notably, Jayanti has been qualified for World Para Athletic Championship to be held in London in July this year. Jayanti’s left hand and waist were burnt in a fire mishap when she was just one-year-old. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated Jayanti on the achievement.
