Naveen, Soumya meet sparks speculations

Naveen Nivas saw an unexpected guest last evening. Chief of Ama Odisha Party and chairman of Eastern Media Limited Soumya Ranjan Patnaik on Saturday met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence fuelling speculations over a new political equation in the State.

Sources said Patnaik had an hour-long discussion with the chief minister. However, he claimed that the meeting had nothing to do with politics. Patnaik, who have been extremely vocal in criticizing the Naveen Patnaik government, said he met the chief minister to discuss a host of issues he is fighting for.

When asked whether he is joining BJD or thinking of forging an alliance with the ruling party, the former Parliamentarian said BJD is not ‘untouchable’. “Politics is all about issues and my party is raising issues of nisha (Alchoholism), bhasa (Language), chasa (Farmer) and chit fund. If a party is committed to address issues of common people then I would love working together to end the suffering of people.”

“I feel there is nothing which cannot be resolved through dialogue,” Patnaik said. There are several issues where parties can unite and work towards its solution, he added

Son-in-law of former Chief Minister JB Patnaik, Soumya Ranjan had unsuccessfully contested from Khandapada Assembly Constituency in Nayagarh district in 2014 elections. He was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha from Bhubaneswar in 1996 on a Congress ticket.

Editorial

Précis 2017
From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
