BJP demands removal of scam tainted Pitroda from cabinet post

A day after Delhi High Court ordered Income Tax scrutiny of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in connection with National Herald case, the State unit of BJP has stepped up pressure on Naveen Patnaik to remove Sam Pitroda from the post of technical advisor to State government with cabinet minister rank as the techie is also a co-accused in the same case.

Pitroda has been rewarded with a cabinet minister rank without contributing anything in the government primarily due to Naveen’s close proximity with Gandhi family, alleged BJP.

“Pitroda is a co-accused in National Herald case in which both Sonia and Rahul have been badly entangled. Even if he has not spent a single day in the State government, Naveen has extended him this facility to enjoy other benefits including diplomatic advantages”, said BJP spokesperson Sajan Sharma while speaking to reporters at party headquarters here today.

BJD has had secret understanding with opposition Congress long since and Pitroda appears to be the major link for this bonhomie, said Sharma. It was primarily due to the secret understanding between BJD and Congress, Naveen’s government was not dismissed and President’s rule was not promulgated in Odisha in 2009 when BJP severed ties with BJD, he pointed out.

Two of the former OPCC presidents – Jayadeb Jena and Niranjan Patnaik- had made it unambiguously clear that BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik was behind their removal before 2009 and 2014 elections respectively, said Sharma hinting at the bonhomie between Congress high command and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik.

When the ruling and the principal opposition parties continue to have secret ties, it directly impacts people’s welfare in the State, alleged Sharma.

BJP will take to streets to expose the secret understandings between Congress and BJD, said Sharma reiterating immediate removal of the scam tainted Pitroda from the post of technical consultant with cabinet rank facilities.

Rubbishing these accusations, BJD spokesperson Dibyashankar Mishra said his party would take steps as per law as and when it is required. If Pitroda is found on the wrong side of law, BJD would take appropriate steps well in time and BJP need not make a false hype on the issue, he added.

Précis 2017
From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
