State Cabinet to meet on May 11 to approve GST implementation

The State Cabinet will meet on May 11 to approve the implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) in Odisha.

Sources said the bill associated with GST that will be tabled in the two-day special Assembly Session on May 18 and 19 too will be discussed in the meeting. Sources said if the Assembly ratifies the Bill, Odisha will become sixth State after Jharkhand, Telangana, Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to adopt GST.

Besides the Odisha GST Bill, the Cabinet will approve Odisha Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2017. The meeting will be the first of the newly constituted Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. As per provision, the states are required to pass their own GST legislations after the GST Bill was approved by both the houses of Parliament. Prior to the Special Session of the Assembly, a workshop to make the lawmakers aware about the crucial Bill will be organised by the Centre on May 17.

Précis 2017
From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
