CM urges Centre for AC express train in Buxi Jagabandhu’s honour

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged Union Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu to introduce a new air-conditioned express train from Khurda Road station to Mumbai in the honour of Odia warrior Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Mohapatra.

Patnaik, in his letter stated that Odisha is marking the bi-centenary of the historic Paika rebellion of 1817. “Paika rebellion was the first awakening of nationalism in pre-independence ere under the able leadership of great Buxi Jagabandhu. This uprising united the people of Odisha against the oppressive policy of the East India Company”, he added.

The chief minister said people of Odisha still remember Buxi Jagabandhu with reverence and awe. “His indefatigable courage, leadership, war strategy, patriotism and sacrifice have made him a legend of my State”, he added.

Patnaik asked the railway minister to introduce a Humsafar type new air-conditioned express train from Khurda Road station, the epicenter of the rebellion to the city of Mumbai.”As there is a huge unfulfilled demand for a daily train in this route of Puri/Khurda Road to Mumbai via Sambalpur, the introduction of ‘Buxi Jagabandhu Express’ train in this milestone year of 2017 will be a fitting tribute from railways to this iconic leaders as well as the monumental event of Odisha”, the chief minister said.

Précis 2017
From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
