Govt to put in place measures in schools for Aadhar enrolment




 State Government has decided to put in place necessary measures for providing the Aadhaar facilities in the Schools as Aadhaar is planned to be used in Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan (SSA).

Chief Secretary A P Padhi has asked the Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DoiT) and Department of School & Mass Education (DoSME) to chalk out a joint strategy with Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for such provisions.

Padhi while lauding the efforts for achieving higher coverage of Aadhar in the State said that there is a need to create a sustainable Aadhar enrolment facilities in the State for Aadhaar enrolment and biometric updates of school children on a continuous basis. Principal Secretary DoiT Pradeep Jena and Secretary DoSME Ranjana Chopra will chart out the programme and both the departments will evolve a mechanism to ensure compliance of and monitoring the programme on a regular basis.
Recently, Padhi had discussed the issue in the All Secretaries Meet and appreciated the efforts made to scale up Aadhaar enrolment in the State.
He has also asked the Department of Women & Child Development to join hands with both the departments for Aadhaar coverage, said sources.
With UIDAI issuing  over 111 crore Aadhaar cards, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO)  Ajay Bhusan Pandey has thanked the State Governments for their active participation.
Notably, Odisha has achieved over 84 Percent Aadhaar coverage and moving faster for more coverage.
Pandey has also stressed Aadhaar enrolment in the Schools as Aadhaar Act is due to come into force for SSA and Mid-day Meal schemes.
 Hence, the children need to have having Aadhaar mandatorily with updated biometrics at the age of 5 and 15 without failing which their Aadhar will be invalid, he pointed out.
Pandey said for hassle free availability of MDM in SSA and MDM, students need updated biometrics, photographs and addresses.
Keeping this in view, Padhi has directed the officials to chalk out strategies for Aadhaar enrolment in each school, both government and private. Camps for Aadhaar enrolment and updation will be organized at least twice a year through enrolment agencies empaneled by UIDAI, said sources.
In the past enrolment camps were held in a successful manner and the same will be continued in the State. The same will be extended to all the schools on a regular basis, the sources said.
