Dharmendra asks SBI to make Odia youth productive, industrious

State Bank of India (SBI) should take active role in ensuring development of the State and especially making the Odia youth productive and industrious, said Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan while addressing the Annual General Body Meeting of the Bhubaneswar Circle of State Bank of India (SBI) Officers’ Association held here on Sunday.

Odisha offers huge possibilities for the youth of the State. Instead of waiting for jobs, the youth should come out to start something on their own making use of the business opportunities the State offers, he said while exhorting SBI to provide handholding support for them to carve out a niche for themselves in the international market. The youth of the State should take advantage of the nationalized banks to give shape to their ventures using possibilities the State has other than harnessing the mineral resources.

May it be opening of Jan Dhan Accounts or dealing with the huge challenge of demonetization introduced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it would not have been possible without the able support of the bankers, said Pradhan.

SBI should make use of the technology to contribute substantially in nation’s move towards cashless society, the Minister said adding that cash transactions tend to give rise to corruption in the country.

Inaugurating the AGM, SBI Bhubaneswar Circle Chief General Manager B Venu Gopala Reddy complimented the officers for their untiring efforts during the demonetization drive.

More than 2,500 officers from various parts of the State took part in the AGM.

AISBOF President DT Franco Rajendra Dev demanded that the bankers should get adequate compensation in their future pay package as they are instrumental in successful implementation of all the government programmes starting from Aadhaar linkage, ?nancial inclusion, MUDRA loan to demonetisation.

SBI Officers’ Association, Bhubaneswar Circle General Secretary Sambit Misra deliberated on the issues confronted by the Association in setting the roadmap for the coming year.

Jyoti Bhusan Mohapatra, General Secretary, SBI Staff Association, Bhubaneswar Circle highlighted the camaraderie of working class in bringing change in working conditions.

SBI Officers’ Association, Bhubaneswar Circle President Bibekananda Das presided over the meeting, while Vice President Arun Kumar Bishoyi offered vote of thanks.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
