BJP slams BJD over alleged use of govt machinery in Panchayat polls

Even as the State Election Commission (SEC) ordered the transfer of Pattamundei BDO for committing irregularities in the upcoming panchayat polls, the State unit of BJP today slammed the BJD government for using government officials to influence the three-tier polls in the State.

“We doubt that the panchayat elections will be free, fair, unbiased and held in a transparent manner. The ruling BJD is misusing the government machinery”, alleged BJP state vice president Samir Mohanty.

The BJD is trying to influence the voters to win the polls by using the local BDOs, Tehsildars and other senior officers, he said.

“Such allegations are reported from several areas including Kendrapara, Bolangir and Nuapada. Action against the Pattamundei BDO, who announced the withdrawal of the Samiti Member candidate for Penthapal panchayat without her consent, clearly indicates the involvement of local MLA into the entire irregularity. On the other hand, the transfer order is an attempt to save the BDO in the case”, Mohanty added.

From asking his party men to ‘live a simple life and serve the people’ to taunting the BJP for its ‘crocodile tears’, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has not only become politically invincible, he seems to be so in the coming years too.
