ORSAC portal bags international award

 Geospatial World Forum (GWF) has selected GOiPLUS – a State government Industrial portal for land use services -- nominated by ORSAC and Industries Department for the Geospatial World Excellence Award-2016.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, who is also the Chairman of ORSAC, has received the information in this regard here, said sources. GOiPLUS – a GIS based Industrial land use and infrastructure information system developed by the ORSAC-- is State Government’s Industrial Portal for Land Use Services for the Industries Department.

According to sources, GWF is a premier global geospatial confederation of industries across the world and has been organizing conferences across the world every year for past one decade. The GWF has been held at Amsterdam, Geneva, Lisbon and Rotterdam etc earlier. This year the event is being co-hosted by premier institutions of country -- Survey of India and Department of Space (ISRO) from January 23 to January 25 at Hyderabad International Convention Center.

Over 3000 delegates from 80 countries attended the function.

To encourage innovative application and development of Geospatial technologies, the forum has instituted the Geospatial World Excellence Awards – touted as an internationally acclaimed award.

Principal Secretary, Industries Sanjeev Chopra, Chief Executive ORSAC Sandip Tripathi, Project Coordinator of GOiPLUS Debajit Mishra are in Hyderabad to receive the award.

Notably, the Project was developed by ORSAC project team comprising Debajit Mishra, Project Coordinators Srikant Das, S Sahu, M Sanabada, IPICOL team of  K Mohanty and Rajiv Dhal and IDCO’s S Mohanty and P Nayak.

GOiPLUS is a web enabled platform to display real time information with regards to land bank, utilities and infrastructure around land banks besides information about existing industries, said sources adding GIS, Space applications, ICT and DGPS technologies are used to develop the GIS database and Web-Portal. The portal contains 37 layers of information in one geo-coded format, they said.

The portal is an interactive platform and provides detailed information with regards to availability of industrial plots based on location specific attributes in terms of connectivity, rail and road linkages and other physical and social infrastructure available in the vicinity of the selected industrial land conversely, the system helps an investor to identify suitable land plots in the vicinity of the utility, sub-utility selected, they said.

It enables prospective investors to identify suitable industrial land in Odisha from the comfort of their offices. A prospective investor can define preferred parameters such as the district, size of land required, facilities available in the vicinity, etc. based on which the portal identifies and returns information regarding the suitable the land parcels available in the State, they added.

It also provides information on zoning of the industrial land in terms of environmental categories i.e. Green, Orange and Red to enable an investor decide on suitable location for the proposed business activities, the sources said. The portal was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Odisha Investors’ Meet at Bengaluru in August last year. Since its launch, the portal has been showcased to perspective investors through investment summits and forums held at Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar for facilitating investment in Odisha.
